JAPANESE PREPARATIONS IN CHINA. OFFENSIVES PREDICTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—’Copyright) CHUNGKING, August 13. There have been only minor engagements in China in the past week, but according to a Chinese spokesman this is only the lull before the storm, as the Japanese are preparing' for a new offensive. They are strengthening their air forces and storing gasoline' for an attack. They have made preparations in three theatres: —(1) The Shantung, .Honan and Kiangsu provinces. (2) Chekiang, Kiangsi and Anhwei. <3) The Luichow peninsula, where the Japanese apparently are planning to enlarge their occupation area and strengthen their blockade against China.
