LAND SALES BILL
RESOLUTION OF MASTERTON MEETING. MR J. ROBERTSON'S REPLY. A copy of the resolution passed by a meeting of Masterton property-own-ers on Wednesday night, regarding the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Bill, was forwarded by the chairman, Mr J. H. Cunningham, to the member for Masterton, Mr J. Robertson. Mr Robertson has telegraphed the following reply to Mr Cunningham:. "Your telegram received containing resolution passed at meeting on Wednesday. My reply is as follows: Careful consideration of Bill and amendments does not support your contentions and the reference to ‘amateur courts’ appears to be an unwarranted reflection on Judges of Supreme Court. Might I suggest that the sponsors of the resolution formulate alternative proposals which would not interfere with what you refer to as rights of landowners and would at the same time prevent inflation of land values and make land available for returning soldiers. If this is not done, I suggest the only alternative is to support the Bill and so help to prevent the repetition of the scandalous injustices perpetrated on the men who returned from the last war.”
MR CUNNIKGHAM'S COMMENT As chairman of the meeting at which the resolution was passed, Mr J. H. Cunningham has sent the following reply to Mr Robertson:—“Replying your telegram, suggest obvious solution survey districts for suitable land for subdivision, which can then be acquired undqr existing legislation. Leave shops, residences and sections out. What about a joint committee from all parties formulating proposals which would be equitable to all sections of community?”
