FARMING CONDITIONS (To the Editor.) Sir,—l was very much surprised on reading a news item in your paper, re conditions on Wairarapa farms. A paper of your standing should endeavour to give the public a true statement of all news. The conditions on all farms in the Masterton area are very ■bad indeed and the ewes are in anything but good condition. In fact the position is most serious, and there will be in all likelihood very serious losses of ewes, lambs and hoggets. If papers publish such misleading statements no wonder the farmer gets the name forgrouching from his town friends. — Yours, etc., F. MILLER. Mount Bruce, August. 11. The item apparently complained about by our correspondent was referred to a well-known farmer of some standing who confirmed what was stated therein—that, generally speaking, considering the autumn drought, ewes were in fairly good condition and that lambing percentages would be about the average. In most cases where ewes were in poor condition, this was due to overstocking. He did not anticipate that there would be any big losses of sheep.
