SHELLED BY NAVY
BIG SHIPYARD ON BAY OF NAPLES PRECISE & CONCENTRATED SHELLING. BY CRUISERS &*DESTROYERS. LONDON, August 11. Cruisers and destroyers bombarded the Italian mainland when they attacked the naval shipyard at Castellammane, on the south side of the Bay of Naples. The attack lasted for 15 minutes. In that brief period hundreds of shells were poured into the important dockyards and repair base there. Some of Italy’s most powerful warships have been built in the yards. The shelling was, carried out with great, precision. The destroyers went in close, while the cruisers stood off and sent shells hurtling into the shipyards. On the same night other naval craft bombarded the coastal railway in the toe of Italy.
