CUT BV RUSSIANS WEST OF KHARKOV

GERMAN FRONT BROKEN INTO ON UPPER DONETZ.
LONDON, August 11
Moscow announces that, the Russians have cut the main Kharkov-Poltava railway, due, west of Kharkov. The Russians arc making good progress north-east, of Kharkov and in the Bryansk sector.
Tonight’s Soviet communique, announcing the cutting of this railway, which is one of the last life-lines of the German garrison in Kharkov, slates that the Russians are now astride the railway at several points. In addition, the communique reports an advance of 10 to 12 miles on the Kharkov front during the day. Over 50 inhabited localities have been liberated.
On the Bryansk front, the communique states, the Russians have also gained still more ground , today and have advanced three to six miles. Over 70 towns and villages were captured. In yesterday’s fighting on all fronts, the Russians knocked out 85 enemy tanks and brought down 86 planes. The German radio states that the German High Command has admitted that the Red Army has succeeded in breaking into the German lines on the Upper Donetz. Hard and fluctuating fighting is still in progress in this region.
