A French prisoner recently escaped from Germany to Britain, where he is now serving in the Fighting French forces, broadcast to his countrymen recently: “What the outstretched handthrough the barbed wire of the prison camp—really meant, you prisoners have long understood; it was but a mean camouflage intended to keep us patient and to reassure our families. Hitler is only carrying out the policy he outlined years in advance: ‘I will separate the husbands from the wives for months, for years. Violence is not the only way to the destruction of a people. I will destroy them slowly, stealthily’.”
