Mr and Mrs J. W. Percy, Bentley Street, Masterton, have received advice that their son, Ken, has arrived at his overseas destination.

A high-ranking officer of the United States Army, Major-General John H. Hester, is at present in Auckland for rest and for the purpose of receiving hospital treatment. Major-General Hester has been commanding an army formation in the South Pacific area.

The death occurred yesterday of Mr Richard Bligh, of Waingawa. The late Mr Bligh, who died in Masterton Hospital, was born in Christchurch 69 years ago. He had lived for many years in the Wairarapa. ’The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 11 a.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. The death occurred suddenly at Napier on Tuesday of Mi’ Edwin Salmond, who for some 26 years had been prominent in the commercial life of Wellington. Born in Dunedin in 1877. he was the youngest son. of Professor William Salmond, of Otago University. He was a brother of the late Sir John Salmond, an eminent New Zealand jurist, and the late Professor Salmond, of Canterbury University College. He is survived by another brother, Mr J. L. Salmond, the oldest living architect in Dunedin. The late Mr Salmond was a well-known tennis player and competed on many occasions at tournaments held in Masterton. He married the only daughter of Mr L. G. Reid, formerly S.M. at Masterton.
