CARTERTON
PLUNKET SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society there were present: Mesdames Armstrong, Steel, Couling, Robinson, Udy and Trapp. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Dyei, Montgomery, Grice and Candy. The nurse’s report for July stated inter alia:—New cases: Mothers, 2; babies, 2; visits to homes, new cases, 7; old cases, 70; pre-school children, 32. Visits to rooms: Adults, 97; babies, 66; pre-school children, 38. It was reported that the knitted coi blanket donated by Miss Kate Booth, had been won by Mrs J. Hickson, and a heater for the waiting room brought with the proceeds. Welcome Home. Tiie settlers of the Parkvale district will tonight welcome home Lance .Corporal Gordon Campbell and Private Leo Smith, who have seen service in North Africa and who are on furlough. Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra will provide dance music and the ladies of the Parkvale district will provide and supervise the supper. Sharp Earthquake. A sharp earthquake was felt in the Carterton district at 9.4 o'clock yesterday morning. Patriotic Dance. The Carterton Maori Tribal Committee will hold a patriotic dance in the State Theatre on Saturday, August 21. The programme will include novelty dances. Waltzing Competition. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a dance in the State Theatre, Carterton, on Saturday next, the proceeds from which will be devoted to the purchase of wool. A waltzing compettiion is sure to create interest, and a prize of £1 will be given to the winning couple. Udy's Orchestra will provide the music.
REGENT THEATRE “SINGAPORE WOMAN.” There will be finally shown tonight the exciting drama, “Singapore Woman,” in which Brenda Marshall and David Bruce have the chief roles.
