AMERICAN HONOURS
AWARDED TO BRITISH GENERALS AND OTHERS. FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICES • IN CAUSE OF ALLIES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) RUGBY. August 10. Generals Alexander and Montgomery, Lieutenant-General Anderson and Major-General H. M. Gale have been appointed Chief Commanders of the Legion of Merit by President Roosevelt. Lieutenant-Generals F. M. Mason, MacFarlane and C. W. Allfrey have been appointed commanders, and thirteen ether high British officers have at the same time been made officers of the Legion. The King has granted unrestricted permission for the wearing of decorations which have been conferred “in reconition of distinguished services in the cause of the Allies.”
