The annual report of the Masterton Methodist Missionary Auxiliary states that Mrs Grantham is doing good work in the Girls’ Life Brigade.
Mr Douglas Cresswell, South Island organiser for the Democratic Soldier Labour Party, has been selected to contest the Timaru scat at the general election.
The engagement is announced ofJoan Melvyon, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Robertson, Palmerston North, to Nelson Ernest, only son of Mrs and the late Mr E. Fairbrother, Featherston. Mr Walter Leslie Page, former secretary of Messrs Blundell Bros., Ltd., and an ex-president of the Seatoun Bowling Club, died in Wellington on Saturday, aged 65. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister, viisted Nelson on Saturday to present the Freyberg flag which Nelson won in the Liberty Loan campaign. He attended a welcome home to Major C. F. Skinner, M.C., M.P., at Motueka in the evening.
The death took place recently of a well known and highly esteemed resident of Pahiatua, in the person of Mr Allan Harford. Coming from. Masterton about 50 years ago, he joined the staff of the Pahiatua branch of Messrs R. Hannah and Co., and was associated with that firm for over 40 years. Nine, years ago he opened business on his own account and he retired only a few weeks ago. While a resident of Masterton he was connected with the Red Star Football Club as an official and player. He is survived by his wife and son, Mr Aflan Harford.
