ST. LUKE’S CHURCH MEETING OF LADIES’ GUILD. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the St. Luke's Church Ladies’ Guild was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs York presided over a good attendance of members.
Mrs York said she was pleased to see some of the mothers present whose sons had recently returned from overseas!.
Mesdames Geo. Burns and E. Williams offered to clean the church brass for this month. For the next meeting members we're asked to bring something for the fruit salad stall at the forthcoming bazaar. After the general meeting all church members were entertained by the Guild.
Mrs York, in welcoming them, asked all to stand and sing the New Zealand National Anthem. Mesdames Vinsen and Eccles contributed songs and Mrs H. G. Carter pianoforte solo. Mrs Beu’s competition was won by Mesdames Smallwood and York. Mrs J. F. Thompson’s competition was won by Mesdames Geo. Burns and F. Wood. The Rev. Abbott expressed pleasure at seeing so many present and said he hpped to see them all more often. Mrs York thanked all those who had helped to make the gathering the success it was. The* hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Wiggins, Beu, Shedden, Barcham and Miss Stephens. ( Personal. Mrs Beverley, of Te Puke, is the guest of Mrs A. York. Kuratawhiti Street. TOWN HALL A THRILLING DRAMA. Tomorrow at the matinee and again in the evening there will be shown the thrilling air drama, “Ships with Wings,” featuring John Clements, Jane Baxter, and Leslie Banks.
