RABBITS AND FERRETS
ATTITUDE OF GOVERNMENT CRITICISED.
The difficulty which was being experienced in obtaining ammunition for rabbit shooting and concern that the destruction of ferrets was being encouraged by the Government were expressed at a meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union at a meeting in Masterton yesterday afternoon. It was decided to enter a protest in the matter. Mr James Andrew said ammunition had been released for duck shooting and it was sheer humbug that.it could not be released for rabbit shooting. Mr A. Keir said an item was passed in Parliament on a recent night which provided for the destruction of ferfets. The Minister of Internal Affairs was opposed to ferrets as they killed pheasants. Some membes of the Opposition had protested against the item being passed but it was of no use. It was incredible that in an agricultural country like New 3baland any Government should pass a vote for the destruction of ferrets. It showed, he said, there were no practical farmers in the Government.
