MEETING 01 COMMITTEE MILK FOR CHILDREN. RESTORATION OF SUPPLY URGED. The monthly meeting of Hie Masterton Central School Committee was held in the school yesterday evening, there being present: Messrs W R. Nicol (in the chair), G. Masters, A. V. Dixon, A I. Gibbs, A. E. Nelson, P. H. Shaw, W. L. Butler, T. A. Russell and G. Bilderbcck. , , The financial statement showed a satisfactory balance and accounts amounting to £2l 4s 9d were passed. The headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington, read his report, which showed a roll number of 613 and a percentage attendance of 92. During the month all children under 7 years of age and many undcr-school age uhilclicD had been given the first 2 innoculations ioi immunisation against diphtheria, lhe third inoculation would be given on August 18. The children would then be immune for at least 12 years. Iwo inspectors had spent a short time, at the school during the month. Considerable repair work was being carried out in connection with the old high school building. It was decided to communicate further with the Borough Engineer regarding certain drainage mattcis. In connection with the talks on health now being broadcast it was decided to point out to the Minister of Health that the supply of milk to the school children of the Wairarapa would be a very practical, way of improving their health. It was pointed out that the Auckland United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary had stated in a letter io the Auckland Education Board that as a result of the milk in schools scheme the decrease in sickness among children had, at a conservative estimate, been 40 per cent. The East School representative reported the planting of a number of poplar trees.
