NEW ZEALAND AIRMAN
PROMOTED TO WING COMMANDER (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 1. Squadron Leader E. V. C. Compton, D.I’.C. and Bar, Invercargill, has been promoted wing commander and appointed to command a Spitfire wing, states the Air Ministry news service. He joined the R.A.F. in 1939, and participated in more than 200 sweeps. He has destroyed 12J enemy planes and damaged many others. He was one of the foundation members of the first New Zealand Spitfire Squadron in England.
