NEW ZEALAND DIVISION IN CAIRO CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS MONTH. (N Z E F. Official News Service) CAIRO, July 29. Various units of the Second N.Z.E.F. 'are training solidly and holding elimination contests before the divisional athletic championships to be held at the Farouk Stadium on August 11, and the divisional swimming championships on August 24 at the Alamein Club baths. Ten entries were received for an essay competition conducted under the auspices of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, the latest subject, being “The Nile.” These have been sent forward to New Zealand for adjudication, the entrants beingmembers of the New Zealand forces overseas, not holding commissioned rank. The subject for the eighth and final competition in the scries of essays which are designed to be of interest to farmers in New Zealand is “The Land." A large volume of sports equipment has been given to units of the Eighth Army by N.A.A.F.1., which completed the financial year with a turnover of £130,000,000. The New Zealand Division received its share, £lOOO worth of sports gear, which was distributed to the units.
