WOOL COUNCIL
FARMERS URGE NEW BLOOD. Addressing a meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union in Masterton yesterday afternoon, Mr L. T. Daniell said that the present Wool Council was not democratic. He said the council needed strengthening with new blood. A motion was passed that the powers of the present Wool Council be extended, that the number be increased to nine members and that an election be held bi-annually. Mr Daniell said Mr H. M. Christie, chairman of the Wool Council, was not a wool producer but was a disappointed politician. Mr J. Andrew said he hoped Mr Daniell would be elected to the council.
The president, Mr Hugh Morrison, said a strong Wool Council would be needed to discuss problems with Australia, South Africa and South America. A wool crisis would probably have to be. met after the war.
