BOTTLES SALVAGED
DUMPED IN RUBBISH TIP. Some thousands of bottles of an imported type were dumped at the Masterton rubbish tip during the weekend. As soon as the borough authorities were apprised of the position, steps were taken to salvage the bottles for further use. The bottles have been collected by a dealer with that end in view.
A number of cardboard cartons were also deposited in the dump and these, too, have been reclaimed by local firms.
It is stated that a considerable quantity of paper has been thrown out in a similar way from time to time. Representations which have been made on several occasions by borough officers to the authorities concerned, seeking their co-operation in saving waste material owing to war shortages, have been favourably received.
