National Savings.

National savings receipts at the Mas* terton Post Office yesterday amounted to £lB9, making the total to date tor the week £382. Band Concert at Park. The Masterton Municipal Band will play a programme of music at the Masterton Park tomororw afternoon, commencing at 2.30 o’clock. Successful Shop Days. The sum of £lO6 was raised by the Wairarapa College Parents’ Association at two shop days held in Masterton. The association expresses its appreciation to those who contributed goods, etc., and who assisted in the shop. A Resident’s Complaint.

A Masterton resident complained to a •‘Times-Age” representative this morning of the state of the thoroughfare through the Masterton Park in the vicinity of the swing bridge which is used largely by hospital nurses and visitors to the hospital, and urged that . the Borough Council have the matter attended to. Mo Katoa Scout Troop.

At a parade of the Mo Katoa Scout troop hockey and handball games were played. The inter-patrol shield was won by the Karoro Patrol for July. The marks scored so far are; Karoro Patrol 157, Hui 130, Kiwi 109, and Tui Patrol 103 marks. Owing to pressure of war-time work and business, the Scoutmaster, Mr " Robinson, has been granted six months’ leave of absence, during which time the district scoutmaster, Mr A. W. Allsop, will give the troop all the assistance possible. Interhouse Association Dance.

The fighting services were fully represented at a largely attended dance held by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. The music was played by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra, and Miss Ngaire Marsh played an extra. Messrs L. Askew and J. Bruce were M’s.C. A modern waltzing competition was won by Mr B. McHattie and Miss N. Benbow, who gave a polished performance. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Robinson and Mr Edwards. Supper was served by Cody’s indoor basketball team. The next association dance will be held on Friday, August 13.
