AIR OFFENSIVE AGAINST GERMANY BY DAY & NIGHT FLYING FORTRESSES OVER CENTRAL REICH. ANOTHER GREAT R.A.F. ASSAULT ON HAMBURG. LONDON, July 30. Planes based on Britain made another great series of daylight, attacks today on Hitler’s Europe. American heavy bombers attacked an aircraft factory at Kassel, in Central Germany; British and American, aircraft raided an airfield in Holland and R.A.F. Bostons attacked an airfield in Belgium. Sixty-one enemy fighters were destroyed in these raids. The Allies lost 15 bombers and seevn fighters. Last night the R.A.F. dropped another 2,300 tons of bombs on Hamburg. In this latest assault on Hamburg, with its 22 miles of quays and 110 miles of docks, U-boat yards, oil refineries and war factories, 28 British bombers were lost. At least three German fighters were shot down. . A strong formation of American Flying Fortresses attacked the aircraft plant at Kassel, where strong German fighter opposition was encountered. The Fortresses destroyed 27 enemy fighters and damaged many more. The Fortresses fought their way to their targets and •,-eports indicate that the results were good. American Thunderbolts escorted the Fortresses to the German border and covered their withdrawal. The enemy kept up strong fighter attacks and many air battles took place. The Thunderbolts accounted for 25 more of the German challengers. R.A.F. and Dominion Spitfires escorted United States medium bombers which attacked an enemy airfield in south-west Holland. They shot down six German “fighters while the bombers made good their attack on the airfield. R.A.F. Bostons raided an airfield near Amsterdam with good results. Their escort of Spitfires and Typhoons shot down three more German fighters. In last night's attack on Hamburg the R.A.F. dropped 2.300 tons of bombs on the targets. The attack was a concentrated one, occupying only 45 minutes. The attacking crews found that the Germans had strengthened their ground defences and a good number of night fighters were in the air. As stated, at least three were shot down. The 28 bombers lost included two Canadian machines. Never before have attacks with such persistence been made on a single industrial centre. It was Hamburg’s seventh raid since Saturday and fires have been raging ever since the first 2300 tons of bombs were dropped, less than a week ago. In two days of recent fighting the Luftwaffe lost more than 100 planes over Western Europe.

The German news agency says British raiders caused further devastation and heavy casualties in Hamburg last night. It was the R.A.F's. seventh attack on Hamburg in 120 hours, bringing the total bombs dropped on Hamburg alone in the last six nights probably to 7,000 tons.
