CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS WAIRARAPA PAST GRANDS’ LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Sister M. E. Eagle presided over the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Past Grands’ Lodge, held at Carterton last evening. A vote of condolence was passed to the family and relatives of the late Bro. John Fensham, a foundation member of the Lodge, which was formed in 1910. The balance sheet, audited and found correct, and showing a credit balance at the bank, was read and adopjted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing twelve months: —President, P.G. Bro. H. Preston; vice-presi-dent. P.G. Bro. A. P. Smith, I.P.P. Sister M. E. Eagle, P.G.; Warden, P.G. Sister K. Mitchell; auditors, P.G.’s Bros. A. P. Smith and G. S. Bruce. It was resolved that the installation of the officers take place at a meeting to be held at the Loyal Masterton Lodge room in October. It was decided that the secretary write a letter of congratulation to a member who had been recently married.
It was resolved that the Grand Master of the Wellington District, Bro. R. Farrow, and his officers be asked to be present at the meeting in October.
Dance at State Theatre. A dance will be held in the State Theatre. Carterton, tomorrow night, under the auspices of the Carterton Branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. Udy’s Orchestra will provide the music, and patrons are assured of an enjoyable time, as special arrangements have been made in this connection. Lecture on Palestine. Last night, at the Masonic Hall, Miss Waterston gave a lantern slide lecture on Palestine, the first of a series showing the marvels accomplished by the British Government, the'Zionist Movement. and the Jews who have returned after 1900 years of exile. The beautiful coloured slides illustrating the series were made by Mr A. J. Ferris during his tour before this war. Those shown last night illustrated the great growth of Haifa and Tel-Aviv, Haifa becoming the finest harbour in the Levant, and Tel-Aviv, from a settlement of sixty families in 1908 to the most modern city of the world, with a wholly Jewish Jewish population of 200,000. The next lecture will be entitled “The Return of the Rain; Palestine Blooms Again.”
Scout Euchre Party and Dance.
The Clareville Scout Committee held in the local hall a euchre party and dance, which was largely attended. Euchre prizes were won by Mesdames Hannah, Ammundsen, K. Reid and Mr E. Phelps. Mrs Rogers supplied the music for the dancing.
The proceeds from these gatherings will considerably increase the finances of the local Troop. rootball. The following is the Carterton senior football team to play the Army at Featherston tomorrow. The team, will leave the Marquis Hotel at 12.45 p.m. sharp, as the game must be commenced at 1.30 p.m.:—O’Neale, Desmond, Conwell, Humphries, Matheson,. Hurndell, Crawley, McPhee. Reid, Tilyard, Hurley, Parker, Reading, Mahupuka, Smith, Busch, White and Taylor. The final practice of the primary schools footballers will be held at Carrington Park tomorrow, when the team to represent Wairarapa will be chosen. The schools' annual tourney will be held in Wellington in August. The following is the Carterton third grade A team to play Masterton at the Carterton Showgrounds at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow:—Rayner, Bond. Daysh, Parker 12), Oberg, Rozska, McPhee, Hurndell, Walsh, Lenihan, Goodin. Berry, Bilton, Workman, Staples, Butler, Butcher. REGENT THEATRE "RED RIVER VALLEY." There will be finally shown tonight the excellent drama, "Red River Valley,” in which Roy Rogers and Windy Hayes have the chief roles. The associate feature, “The Carter Case,” is a thrilling murder mystery, with James Ellison and Virginia Gilmore in the principal roles.
