W.W.S.A.

CUPS FOR COMPETITIONS. VEGETABLES TO BE GROWN FOR SERVICES'. A meeting of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary was held yesterday, those present being Mesdames Robertson (president), Copp, Perfect, Hosking, Kier, Pither, McWhinnie and thcsecretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Jordan and Miss Kemp. A letter was received from the Masterton Hospital offering to train girls in kitchen work, and stating that those who wish to do so could avail themselves of the offer. To give the girls an object for their activities, a proposal was put forward to raise funds for a mobile canteen, and it was decided that dances be held once a fortnight, some of the proceeds of which will be used for providing parcels for service men overseas and also, if possible, to procure a drum. It was reported that Mrs A. Whit- ■ taker had given a cup to be completed for by the various sections of the W.W.S.A., to be ’won three times in succession before becoming the property of any section. It was stated that Lieut. Nuttall, of the Home Guard, had donated a second prize. Votes of thanks were passed to the donors. A plot of land at Masters Crescent is to be used by the W.W.S.A. gardening group on which to grow vegetables for the services or for local consumption.
