No Bankruptcies.

No cases of bankruptcy were recorded in the Wairarapa during July. A similar position has existed since the beginning of the year.

Aid Dance. Members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment of the Order of St. John held a successful dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton. last night. Splendid music was supplied by Barnes’s Orchestra, and Mr W. R. Nicol was a capable M.C. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee headed by Mrs Colin Deans. The hostesses were Mrs A. F. Stewart (Commandant), Miss L. Whitehouse (assistant commandant) and Miss D. Kemp (Lady Superintendent). There was a large attendance.

Native Pigeon Visits Masterton. A native pigeon was seen in the garden of Mr V. E. Donald, Lansdowne, on Wednesday, feeding on karamu berries. Mr Donald, by judicious planting of native trees, has transformed a gorse-ridden hillside into a fine area of native bush. The area in question provides an impressive example of what can be achieved in this direction andi its success can be judged by the presence of a forest-loving bird such as the native pigeon. Building Society.

A general meeting of the shareholders of the No. 2 Workers' Mutual Benefit Building Society was held last night when Mr R. Krahagen presided over a small attendance of shareholders. The successful shareholder in the ballot was Mr A. Neish, of Masterton, who was declared entitled to an appropriation of £4OO free of interest. A tender of £4O for £4OO in the No. 2 Society was accepted, and a tender of £lOO for £BOO in the B Group of the Society was accepted.
