GREAT VICTORY
WON BY SMUTS PARTY IN SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTION. INDICATIONS OF OVERWHELMING MAJORITY. LONDON. July 28. As an outcome of the recent elections in South Africa, General Smuts is likely to have a considerably bigger majority than the most optimistic had forecast. His war policy is receiving the most hearty endorsement. The latest figures of the state of parties are, ~ Supporters of General Smuts, 11 seats.
Opposition, 10 seats. Several members of the Cabinet have been returned with enormous majorities. The leader of one of the national groups has been defeated by an unknown candidate.
