CARTERTON
WEDDING TOWNSEND—PARKER. (“Times-Age” Special.) A wedding of considerable interest to many residents of Carterton took place recently at St. Mark's Church, when Mona Francis, youngest daughter of the late Mrs M. Parlier, was married to William George, youngest son of Mr and Mrs T. Townsend, of Dalefield. The church had been very prettily decorated. The Rev. W. F. Stent officiated.
The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr rl. Parker, looked charming dressed in figured satin, with a high neckline, tight fitting bodice and full sleeves, with a skirt falling into a lovely train. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Her embroidered tulle veil, kindly lent by her sister-in-law, was held in place by a pearl halo. She was attended by Misses Hilda Craig (chief), Betty Packer and Constance O’Keefe (nieces of the bride), wearing white and silver figured tight fitting bodices with full white georgette skirts. Their head dress consisted of white embroidered tulle shoulder length veils, held in place by red flowers. Red crosses were worn round their necks. Their shower bouquets were of red chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The flower girls, Norma Gallon, niece of the bride, and Nola Mellish, wore white stiffened net over white taffeta. Their frocks, which were made on similar lines to those of the bridesmaids, were decorated with red butterflies. They carried baskets of red chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern.
The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Ken Townsend, brother of the bridegroom. The groomsmen were Messrs Owen Anderson and Ivan Stevens.
On leaving the church the bride was presented with a horse shoe by Elaine Mellish. A guard of honour was formed by members of the Hinemoa Hockey Club, of which the bride was a member. After the ceremony a reception was held in the State Theatre. Mrs R. S. Gallon (sister of‘the bride), assisted by Mrs Townsend, received the guests, both wearing black dresses with red shoulder sprays. The bride travelled in a green check costume with black accessories. The. 1 honeymoon was spent in the north. Mr and Mrs Townsend's future homo will be in Lower Hutt.
