MEETING OF COMMITTEE

TWO MEMBERS RESIGN.

GROUND IMPROVEMENTS

PROPOSED.

The resignations of two members of the Master ton West School Committee were accepted at the last meeting of the committee, over which Mr H. Scott presided. The resignations were those of Mr E. R. Rogers, on account of illhealth, and Mr L. Shepherd, who had been transferred to another district.

Appreciation was expressed of the services given to the committee by the two members and it was decided to write to Mr Rogers, conveying the committee’s sympathy in his illness and wishing him a speedy recovei'y. Mr H. L. Esau was welcomed as a new member of the committee. It was decided to make a room at the Side School available to the W.E.A. group for meeting purposes. The headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell, reported a roll number of 341. The cutting of trees in the Victoria Street grounds was in hand and a start made with the painting of the Side School. More than 200 trees had been planted at the West School under the supervision of Mr F. C. Brockett. The garden plot for vegetables was being prepared. Motions of thanks were passed to Mr F. Peterson for the donation of a copper beech, to the Women Teachers’ Association for a donation, the Trust Lands Trust for a grant of £43 2s 6d, and to Mr C. R. Goudge for a donation to the school funds. The secretary, Mr Dugdale, was instructed to write to Mrs A. J. Henderson conveying the committee’s appreciation of her services at West School and congratulating her on her transfer on promotion to the Central School.

Mr Esau’s offer to draw up a plan for ground improvements at the West School for submission to the committee was gratefully accepted.

It was decided to ask the Education Board to have the fittings at the Side School renovated.
