HOSTILITY TO ALLIES
SHOWN BY THE ARGENTINE GOVERNMENT. ACTION AGAINST COMMUNITY COUNCIL. <By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 26. The Argentine Government has raided and closed the offices of the British Community Council in Ollavaria, says the Montevideo correspondent of the “New York Times.” The council embraces British and Dominion religious, cultural and sporting organisations, and co-ordinates their efforts toward winning the war. The Government has furthermore prohibited a British festival which was intended to raise funds for British prisoners of war. The police seized all books and records of the council.
The correspondent says that this is the first measure by the Argentine Government against an Allied organisation contributing directly to the United Nations' war effort.
