AIR FORCE RELATIONS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ASSISTANCE ACKNOWLEDGED. At the monthly meeting of the Air Force Relations Committee the following members were present: Mesdames Lord (in the chair), S. J. Gill, Rishworth, A. Harcombe, P. Nathan. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. A. Betts, Sellar and Misses Carey and M. Patrick. Mrs Adams Jones was elected to the committee.
It was reported that during the month woollen comforts were issued at the R.N.Z.A.F. station at Masterton. These included 106 pullovers, 54 scarves, 20 balaclavas and 130 pairs of mittens made from old socks. Two cases of tinned food were packed for overseas. Every Tuesday afternoon the committee and many willing helpers work at the patriotic room, in the Ladies' Rest Rooms, Dixon Street, when the mending from the men stationed in Masterton is attended to, old socks made into mittens, and Air Force wool and patterns given out to knitters. Mrs Burrell, wife of WingCommander Burrell, paid a brief visit to Masterton. She spoke of the urgent need for more pullovers, balaclavas and mittens at headquarters, and of the enormously increased allowance of wool from the National Patriotic Headquarters, for men of the Air Force. Previously it had been impossible to give comforts to all the men and it is hoped to overcome this shortage in the near future.
The committee wish to thank the following for help during the month: Mesdames Anderson, C. Braggins, D. Buchanan, J. A. Betts, T. Beetham, Brickman, W. Bunny, C. Bennett, S. M. Baird, W. Burling, H. Beetham. Carey, J. Caselberg, N. A. Cunningham, W. Davidson, P. Fagan, S. Gill, Hosking, Hogg, Harcombe, Holtham, Irwin, J. M. James, H. J. Carey, McEachen, Ashwell, Pearce, Cruickshank and Mr J. Whiteman.
Parcels of ' comforts, knitted garments or tinned food may be sent to any member of the committee, or left at the offices of Messrs Dunderdale & Gray, Perry Street. The parcels will be packed and forwarded to Wellington on the 20th of every month.
