FEATHERSTON
SOLDIERS’ DANCE A LARGE ATTENDANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the weekly soldiers’ dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday night. Excellent music was supplied by Mr Len Daysh's Orchestra. Extras were played by Misses E. Daysh and N. Gunderson and Corporal Chaplaw. Mr P. Habib was M.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss P. Gain and Leading Aircraftman Mclntosh, and a competition by Mr Milton Taylor. Supper was served by the Junior Patriotic Committee. The members of this committee are to be congratulated on the manner in which these dances are conducted, and the effort which they have made each week to ensure their success. These dances have become very popular in Featherston.. Siren Tried Out. ' At 6 o'clock on Saturday evening the siren installed at the fire brigade station was given its first trial, proving very satisfactory. The residents of Featherston have no need to worry now about fires with the brigade in possession of a new motor pump and the siren. The members of the brigade have been engaged in strenuous training during the past month and are to be congratulated on their excellent progress. Personal Items. Mrs C. Buck, Underhill Road, is the guest of Mrs F. Hayes, Wellington. Mrs J. Perfect, Fox Street, is the guest of Mrs Perfect Senr., Gisborne. Mr nd Mrs R. Lawrence and family, Fox Street, are spending a holiday at Petone. Mesdames L. Long and B. Foster were Wellington visitors to Featherston for the weekend. Mr C. W. Houghton, head exchange clerk, was recently demobilised from camp and took up duties today, being on loan to the Electoral Department under the Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer at Featherston. Miss L. J. Ritchie is the guest of Mrs C. de Montalk. Lower Hutt. Mrs N. York, of Hastings, is spending a holiday with Mrs E. Suttrell, “Waituna.” COSY THEATRE “THE PRIME MINISTER.” On Wednesday night there will be presented the outstanding drama. “The Prime Minister,” in which John Gielgud. Will Fyffe and Diana Wynyard portray the chief characters.
