RAIDS ON TRANSPORT
MADE BY ALLIED FIGHTERS OVER OCCUPIED EUROPE. LOCOMOTIVES AND PLANES DESTROYED. (British Official Wireless.. RUGBY, July 23. Typhoons, Mustangs, Spitfires and Hurricanes of the Fighter Command today attacked enemy transport in occupied Europe. Four Hurricanes destroyed two locomotives, damaged three and shot up barges and motor trucks. The first locomotive attacked blew up and a second one was destroyed. It was knocked off its bogey. Two Typhoon pilots encountered two Messerschmitt 109 s in the Nieuport area and attacked the leading machine. It was last seen going down, with smoke pouring from it, with the undercarriage down and bits falling off it.
