STREET WIDENING
POSITION OF PROPERTY-OWNERS. BOROUGH ENGINEER’S ADVICE. Property-owners concerned in the street widening proposals of the Masterton Borough Council, if they wish to have the position regarding compensation clarified, are advised by the Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, to write to the Council asking for an assessment of the value of the property to be taken. If that were done, said Mr Mabson, the owner would know where he stood in the matter of compensation and that would enable him to make the necessary arrangements regarding rebuilding or tenancies. The amount of compensation would not be paid until the actual widening scheme was put in hand. Mr Mabson said he was preparing a town plan embodying the recent decisions of the Masterton Borough Council in relation to street widening and improved access to Queen Street, but he anticipated that it would be some months before the plan would be ready for submission to the authorities in Wellington.
