ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
f BOARD & CONTROLLER AT ODDS IN HUTT VALLEY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. On the ground that it would be impossible to supply houses and keep within the percentage increase in current allowed by the controller, and the pointing out that the controller had already threatened to disconnect the supply because it was exceeding its allocation, the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board recently declined the request of the controller to connect up State houses. It had before it yesterday a reply which stated that the controller could not accept the board’s statement and pointed out the urgency of giving prior ity to houses. The board would have to seek to cut down the use of electricity in other directions. The amount needed by 100 houses would not be great. If it were found after the houses were supplied that the board needed a larger supply, the question of a larger allocation would be considered. The board passed the following resolution: “Bearing in mind the complete dependence on electricity supply of the most essential services, particularly water and sewerage pumping and industries, the board regrets that it cannot agree to the request to connect 100 additional new homes per month unless and until a guarantee is given by the Electricity Controller that the boaids area Will not be disconnected if the percentage increase is exceeded.
