LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
A MUSICAL TREAT. BY SOLWAY COLLEGE PUPILS. The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held in the Knox Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs L. B. Maunsell, who presided, welcomed over 100 members and friends. After the prayer and hymn, members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs Parsons. Mrs Maunsell then introduced Miss Mcßae, principal of Solway College, who had brought Miss Mavis Macdonald, the school musical director and six of her singing pupils to give the afternoon’s entertainment. This sextette, called the “Aeolians,” is comprised of girls in their early teens, and Miss Mcßae in introducing them, said she hoped that the programme to be presented would not only prove entertaining, but would drive away all care and thoughts of responsibility. Never has the League been more richly entertained, for the sweet quality of the girls’ voices was heard in solos and also to great advantage in part singing. It was agreed by members that with Miss Macdonald, who train and accompanies the girls, Masterton is fortunate in having a musician of such talent. Many of the items had been arranged by Miss Macdonald, and the “Aeolians” reflected great credit on their teacher and the girls. At the conclusion of the programme Mrs Maunsell thanked Miss Mcßae for bringing Miss Macdonald and her pupils and assured her of the League s appreciation of such a musical treat. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Traynor, Ball, Speight, Shouler, DavisGoff, Goodman and Stains. The girls who took part in the entertainment were: Audrey Cooper, Mary Burch, Beth Shannon, Nancy Fordyce, Maureen Frankin, and Naomi Harris.
