ATTACKED BY AMERICAN BOMBERS NUMBER OF FIRES STARTED. NEAR HITS ON ENEMY SHIPS. LONDON, July 20. American bombers have raided the Kuril Islands, which si ret ch for nearly a thousand miles north-east from northern Japan. t A Washington communique states that bombers attacked targets on Paramusair, one of the islands of the group most distant from Japan, and started a number of fires. Japanese ships in the straits were bombed and several near hits were seen.
