LIBERTY LOAN
LABOUR PAPER’S REFERENCES TO NATIONAL PARTY. DISAPPROVED BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A reply to a complaint by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, about an article in the Labour organ ‘ The Standard” in which reference was made to the National Party and the Liberty Loan was made last night by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. “I have now read the article to which you called my attention in your telegram of July 16,” said Mr Fraser, “and I have to state in reply that I entirely disapprove of that portion of it which could be construed as an' attempt to associate inferentially some unidentified members of the National Party with any opposition to or discouragement of the Third Liberty Loan. I note that yourself and the officials of the National Party are given credit in the article for supporting the loan, and it was stated definitely that it would be wrong ‘to suggest that the National Party officially had any part’ in what was described as ‘this campaign.’ ” The Prime Minister added that if there were a few discouragers or saboteurs who endeavoured to retard the success of the loan they did not have much effect, and he felt certain they were not associated with any party.
