ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB. DISCUSSIONS AT WEEKLY MEETING. Mr. E. J. Esler presided over a very good attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last night. The usual reading and study period was followed by an exceptionally interesting impromptu discussion lead by Mrs. N. Lamont, who took as her subject, “Printempo, Somero, Autana kaj Vintro (spring, summer, autumn and winter), and illustrated the features of each season by blackboard sketches. In the course of a general discussion on publicity, the secretary, Mr N. Lamont, remarked how many people still persisted in imagining that Esperantists aimed at having all peoples of the world speaking the one language and no other. It may be that this would come about in a thousand years or so, but in the meantime, it must surely be obvious to thinking people that some form of international auxiliary language that will permit ready entercommunication between all races, was desirable, if not essential. The post-war world would inevitably be a very small world and the breaking down of the physical barriers between nations must be followed by the lowering also of mental and psychological barriers.
