OFFICIAL MONEY-MAKERS
OVERTIME WORKED IN* 1942. OTTAWA. Canada’s official money-makers worked overtime during 1942 to keep pace with the demand for coins, it was shown in the annual report of the Royal Canadian Mint, tabled recently in the House of Commons. The mint operated throughout the year from 16 to 24 hours per day and it was necessary to increase the staff of mint craftsmen. A total of 108,186.000 pieces were issued during 1942, an increase of 23.280,000 pieces over 1941. The mint coined 2,587,973 pieces for the Government of Newfoundland. The increase in production was general over all the different sizes of coins.
