“In my talks here I have not forgotten Pitcairn Island, whose romantic history and isolation from the rest of the world always evoke sympathetic interest. Some two years ago the people of Pitcairn very kindly sent me a personal gift in the shape of a small fragment of the rudder of the Bounty. I felt that this interesting relic should find a permanent home in one of our Naval Museums, and I have therefore presented it to the National Maritime Museum, at Greenwich, who have accepted it gratefully.”—Sir Harry Luke, ex-High Commissioner of the Western Pacific, in a 8.8. C. overseas service.
