1 FAMOUS SOUTH AFRICAN MISSING. (By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 18. The South African Wing Commander J. D. Nettleton, aged 25, who was awarded the Victoria Cross after leading a formation of Lancasters in a rooflevel day attack against Augsburg in April, 1942, is reported missing. Wing Commander Nettleton’s was the only plane to return out of six which made the attack on a U-boat and engine factory at Augsburg, involving a flight of 1000 miles over enemy territory.
