ALLIED AIR BOMBARDMENT OF ROME

Attack Concentrated on Military Objectives RAILWAY MARSHALLING YARDS & AIRFIELD DAMAGE TO RELIGIOUS & CULTURAL MONUMENTS AVOIDED LONDON, July 19. It is officially announced that bombers of the Allied Mediterranean forces .yesterday raided military objectives in Rome. It is reported that the railway marshalling yards was the main target. The personnel in the raid .were particularly instructed to avoid damaging religious and cultural monuments. . Another message states that the attack, which was made in daylight, lasted for 2| hours. It was concentrated on two railway centres and an airfield. Very strong forces of heavy and medium bombers made the attack, which caused much devastation in the target areas.
