BRIGHT DISPLAY GAME AT CARTERTON. CIVILIAN TEAM DEFEATS ARMED FORCES. A game between a Wairarapa civilian team and an Armed Forces team made up of representatives of the learns playing. in the Wairarapa Rugby Union’s competition was played at Carterton on Saturday afternoon before a large crowd. The civilian team won by 8 points to 3. Play was hard and fast. There was little between the two forward packs and the backs threw the ball about and this resulted in many bright passing rushes. D. Clay, a third grade player, in the first spell, scored a good try which was converted by Mahupuka. placing the civilian team 5 points in the lead. In the second spell the Armed Forces’ team scored an unconverted try. In the closing stages of the game Mahupuka scored for the civilian team, making the final score, civilian team 8, Armed Forces team 3. Mr W. Grantham was a capable referee. The game was considered by old footballers to have been the best Rugby display seen for some years. Henderson, captain of the Armed Forces’ team, was an outstanding player until ho had to retire injured. Martin Parker, a veteran Wairarapa representative player. excelled as full back. Hurndell played well in the forwards. A fast and evenly matched Possible v. Probable third grade game was played as a curtain-raiser. Goodin kicked a penalty goal for the Possible team which won by 3 points to nil. THIRD GRADE REP. TEAM.
