CHESS CONTEST
NORTH v SOUTH WAIRARAPA. REUNION IN MASTERTON. A North versus South Wairarapa chess match, played last night in the Savage Club Rooms, Masterton, provided the first reunion of chess enthusiasts in the district for some years. South Wairarapa won by four games to three, the detail results being (South Wairarapa players given first in every case): J. Thompson beat E. A. Cleghorn; A. Maidment beat Kemble Welch; R. Field lost to CJiff Clemas; A. Yorke lost to N. Lamont; W. Wood beat R. Jamieson; Russell Smith beat Mrs Glen, E. Collier lost to L. Ball. Supper was served by Mesdames Clemas and Heyder and an opportunity was taken to welcome the secretary, Corporal Cliff Clemas, who is on furlough from the Middle East.
