CHECK ON MALARIA
♦ ACTION IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 16. Australian civilians may be compelled to undergo examination and treatment for malaria. Fears have been held that soldiers returning from the New Guinea battle zone might introduce the disease into Australia. Cases of such infection have been already reported. The State Premiers’ conference here investigated the position and authorised compulsory treatment. A special report by Dr. Earle Page recommended the eradication of swamp breeding grounds in the Townsville and Cairns areas.
