IN NORTHERN ITALY ATACKED BY R.A.F. BOMBERS IN ORDER T.O INTERRUPT AXIS TRANSPORT. MOTOR FACTORY IN FRANCE ALSO BLASTED. LONDON, July 16. Heavy Lancaster bombers from Britain intervened in Hie .Mediterranean operations by attacking power installations and a switching station in Northern Italy. Much of the Italian railway system is electrified and the attack is. believed to be aimed at interrupting the movement of German reinforcements and supplies to Italy. Other aircraft attacked industrial targets at Montbeliard, only 10 miles on the French side of the Swiss frontier—the main target being a motor vehicle factory which has assumed increased importance to the enemy since the devastation of the Renault works, near Paris. Thick smoke was seen rising from the factory. Seven bombers are missing from last night’s operations.
