FAR REACHING PROJECTS
DISCUSSED BY DELEGATES. AT RED CROSS COUNCIL MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A number of far-reaching projects in connection with Red Cross organisation were discussed by delegates at the eleventh annual meeting of the Dominion council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society in Wellington. A survey of training methods in country districts was made. Because of the marked difference between cities and thinly populated and isolated areas, the needs of country members should be met in the type of training, it was stated, so that practical nursing and first aid could be of the type that the country woman could carry out in her own home. In brief, the subject from a teaching point of view should be concentrated on home nursing and first aid, while instruction in technique of a hospital standard should be reduced to a minimum. The question of post-war relief was discussed at length, a sub-committee being set up to formulate a plan for submission to the Government, offering the society’s full co-operation both in New Zealand and overseas. Other international and national ties were stressed, including a decision to establish a publicity section which would make the work of the society better known throughout the Dominion. This would educate members in regard to additional avenues of service, and would furnish each centre with a library of the publications of National Red Cross Societies of all Englishspeaking countries so that outside activities could also be developed. The society would continue to make an annual grant of £5OO to the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva, it was disclosed, and £250 to the League of Red Cross Societies for the support and upkeep of the work being accomplished overseas.
