RED CROSS SOCIETY

COUNTRY DISTRICTS CENTRE. NURSING AND FIRST AID SUCCESSES. The monthly meeting of the Country Districts Red Cross Society was held yesterday at the Country Women’s Club, Masterton, Mrs W. James presiding. Mrs James reported on > V.A. home nursing and first aid classes held recently for country girls. The response to the appeal was excellent, she said, 25 attended the home nursing classes and all passed, 7 gaining honours. In the first aid there was a class of 27 and 25 passed. Five girls were already doing their 60 hours training at the hospital. The lectures in both sections were conducted by Mrs Neville Parsonson, and the members were grateful to her for her co-operation. It was decided to forward £5l to the Centre as' a donation to the Chinese and Turkish relief fund. It was reported that 107 articles had been forwarded to the Centre. Votes of thanks were passed to the managers of Orui and Riverside stations for donations, to Mrs Milne (representative on the Patriotic Committee), to the papier mache group convenors (Mesdames Kemble Welch ahd Munn and their assistants), for splints for the Junior Red Cross Society, and to Mrs C. Van Praagh. It was announced that Mesdames Kemble Welch and Munn would shortly hold a display of papier mache articles suitable for ships and military hospitals in one of the local shop windows.
