SOUTH FEATHERSTON
SETTLERS FAREWELLED ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable gathering was held in the South Featherston Hall when a farewell gathering was tendered to Mr and Mrs D. W. Burt and Mr and Mrs H. R. Burt, who have disposed of their farm, known as Willow Bank. The time was spent in playing cards and dancing. A community sing was led by Mrs Carter. The card winners were Mrs A. Gain and Mr R. Jepsen. A song was sung by Mrs A. Mclvor and much appreciated. The music was supplied by Mesdames F. R. Burt, A. Gain and Carter. Mr D. G. Robertson, on behalf of the settlers, presented, Mr and Mrs D. W. Burt with a silver fruit dish and toast rack, and Mr And Mrs H. R. Burt with a teaset and silver sandwich dish. On behalf of the Home and School Association, Mrs Clark presented Mrs D. W. Burt with a gift and Mrs H. R. Burt with a cheque on behalf of the young people of South Featherston. Miss Jean Burt presented Miss Ngaire Gain, who is also leaving the district, with a gift. Mr and Mrs H. R. Burt will leave next week for Te Puke, where they have bought a farm.
WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre party and dance held in the South Featherston Hall by the War Service Committee. Udy’s Orchestra provided the music and extras were played by Tom Udy. Mr Alex Robertson and Alex Burt were M’s.C. The Monte Carlo waltzes were won by R. Burt and Mrs Thurston, and Miss Flora Donald and partner. A lucky spot dance was won by Miss E. Simmonds and partner. The card winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Wakely, 1; Mrs R. Simmonds, 2. Men: Nelson Fairbrother, 1; Mr Beattie, 2. Supper was served by a ladies' committee. A ham was won by Mrs I. Thurston. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. Graham are spending a holiday at Auckland. Mrs A. Y. Burt and Mr J. Burt, of Ngawapurua, are the guests of Mrs Wilton. Mr P. A. Wilton is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs Baillie spent the weekend at -Palmerston North. Miss G. Willis has returned home after a holiday spent at Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs G. W. Holmes have returned to Lower Hutt after a visit to South Featherston.
