Body Found in Harbour. The body of a man, which had apparently been in the water for some considerable time was taken from Wellington harbour yesterday by the Wharf Police. A.T.C. Dance. Members of the local Squadron of the Air Training Corps held a well-attend-ed dance in the Savage Club rooms, Masterton, last night. The dance was well run, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Among those present was Flying Officer Playstead, officer- commanding. Art Exhibition. The Masterton Art Club’s annual exhibition, which was held in the Bannister Street Hall yesterday afternoon and evening and this afternoon, attracted a large attendance of the public. Yesterday, afternoon tea was served by members of the club. The work of members was greatly admired by the public. Gifts Acknowledged. The matron of Sedgley Home acknowledges wtih thanks receipt of the following gifts received during June: Cakes, Mesdames J. E; Broad, E. M. Ramsden, H. M. Boddington, J. Ninnes, S. R. Gawith, A. C. Major, R. D. Perry, Neil Irwin, Miss Cruickshank; swede turnips, Mr R. Liverton; sheep, Mr James Andrew; scones, Mrs Styles; doughnuts, American Red Cross; buns, Mr Ferris; eggs and butter, Mrs H. B. Maunsell; currants, Anon.; flour, cocoa and potatoes, Anon.; entertainment at pictures, Mr H. Reid. Free Kindergarten Association. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Free Kindergarten Association’s Council was held in Masterton yesterday, Mrs C. J. Williams presiding. Arrangements were made to hold a ‘'sewing afternoon” fortnightly, and it was decided to ask members and friends to assist. A competition was won by Mrs M. A. Read, Te Wharau. It was reported that several successful card parties and a bring and buy stall had been held during the past month. The serving of afternoon tea brought an enjoyable meeting to a close. Chess Reunion Tomorrow. Chess players of the Wairarapa are holding a social evening in the Savage Club rooms, Masterton, tomorrow, commencing at 7.30 o'clock. An invitation is extended to all chess players to be present. It is some time since -a gathering has been held, and it is expected that there will be a large attendance. Arrangements are being made to hold a north versus south Wairarapa chess match. Members of the , Masterton Chess Club and others will be pleased to welcome the secretary, Corporal Cliff Clemas, who is on furlough from 1 the Middle East.
