KAIPARA SEAT
FORMER LABOUR CANDIDATE. SELECTED AS INDEPENDENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, This Day. At a representative meeting of electors held last evening, Mr P. McG. Stewart, Ruawai, and Mr Rodney Coates, Matakohe, were nominated as Independent candidate to contest Kaipara at the coming election. A vote taken after the nominees had addressed the meeting for fifteen minutes each, resulted in Mr Stewart’s favour by two to one. A strong committee was set up to further Mr Stewart's candidature. At the last election, Mr Stewart opposed the late Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates in the Labour interest, polling 3,725 votes. The candidate will be given an absolutely’free hand. On Saturday, at Paparoa, a selection will be made of a candidate to contest the election as an Independent Nationalist.
