WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING AT TIRAUMEA COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs Harman Junr., presided. Letters were read from soldiers overseas, expressing appreciation for parcels sent io them. Arrangements were made in connection with the birthday of the branch. The winners of the competitions were as follow: —Best oven-cloth from sugar bag: Mrs Wallis, 1; Mrs Jewitt, 2. “Wandering shilling”: Mrs Kitchen. Amusement competition: Mrs Wallis and Miss Jewitt, equal, 1. Bowl of native shrubs: Mrs Jewitt. Two parcels were packed by the hostesses, Mesdames Hansen and Kitchen for soldiers overseas. Personal Items. The many friends of Mr and Mrs H. Seymour will be pleased to hear that their son, Ross, who met with an injury to his eye, is making good progress towards recovery. Mr and Mrs Harman arc visiting Wellington. Miss Pickett, postmistress, has returned from a visit to Napier, where she attended her brother's wedding. Mrs C. Robbie has returned from a holiday spent in Palmerston North. Miss Graham, of Haunui, has been on a visit to the South Island. Mrs Williams and Mrs Cox are the guests of Mrs E. Jewitt. The ten candidates who attended the V.A.D. lectures of home nursing in Masterton have all passed, Mesdames Robbie, Houlbroooke, Misses Wright, Curtis and Duncan gaining honours. Mesdames Houlbrooke and Robbie and Miss Hansen have also completed their 60 hours at the hospital. Miss M. Wright has left on a visit to Auckland. Private J. Hay has been spending furlough with his parents.
