FINAL FIGURES

LIBERTY LOAN RESPONSE ; MASTERTON’S TOTAL. CONTRIBUTIONS NUMBER 7330. The final figures for Masterton’s Liberty Loan campaign show that the total amount subscribed locally is £365,702. This represents 139 per cent of the quota of £262,800. Detailed figures are: Liberty Loan stock, 863 subscribers, £295,768; bonds, 2042 subscribers £25,685; war savings deposits, 4425 contributors, £44,249. This makes a total of 7330 contributors. “District resents being submerged in Wellington. No figures given despite your promise. Better send us Jolly Roger flag.”—This is the wording of a telegram sent today by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, to the Reserve Bank authorities in Wellington. Mr Jordan said that as a member of the National Liberty Loan Committee he had repeatedly made requests that the Wairarapa Liberty Loan figures should be separated from those of Wellington . The secretary of the National Committee had promised to publish the Masterton figures if they were supplied to him. The figures had been sent, but so far had not been published by the committee. W.W.S.A/S RECORD SUM OF £6860 COLLECTED. A sum of £6860 was raised as the direct result of efforts by the Masterton Women’s War Service Auxiliary. This amount, it is stated, should stand comparison with similar efforts in any part of New Zealand. Mrs A. Whittaker, the commanding officer, and 14 members of the unit were responsible for this result. They sold bonds during bond wagon and other street appeals in the course of the campaign in Masterton.
